Firsts of the year

The start of a new academic year is always filled with excitement, especially for volunteers stepping into their roles for the first time. This year, we are delighted to share the exciting stories of some of our volunteers who embarked on their teaching journeys with eVidyaloka. Their experiences reflect the transformative impact of volunteer teaching in rural education.

Volunteer Teacher Madhumathi Krishna Kumar was in for a pleasant surprise when she began to teach English to the 6th grade students at GHPS Nigadi this academic year. Her first class was an opportunity to understand her students, and she was thrilled to discover their comfort with English.

The Volunteer teachers before her, along with the schoolteachers had laid a strong foundation on which Madhumathi is excited to build on.

Madhumathi’s initial apprehensions turned into enthusiasm as she aimed to further enhance the students’ language skills, ensuring a successful and enriching academic journey.

Madhumathi Krishna Kumar is a home maker. She is also a computer science Graduate with a master’s in English literature. Started her career as a teacher at Junior Colleges in Navi Mumbai teaching English and Social Sciences.

At GHPS Bevur school in Koppal, Mangala Devi's first session proved to be a testament to the efficacy of eVidyaloka’s Digital Classroom Program.

Teaching 6th-grade Mathematics, Mangala Devi was impressed by the smooth integration of online learning tools and the support provided. Her feedback emphasised the success of the online program and the positive impact on students in rural areas.

Mangala Devi is currently a Math teacher with Cuemath. She has been a Faculty lecturer for 11 years.

Volunteer Teacher Teenaa Sharma’s volunteer teaching journey at UPG HS Rajbandh began with great enthusiasm. Her first day focused on creating an engaging environment for her students, using interactive activities and games. Teenaa’s approach successfully built rapport and encouraged student participation, reflecting the positive outcomes of volunteer teaching in rural education. This joyful start shows how receptive the students in our rural government schools are to the passionate volunteer teachers who connect online.

Teenaa Sharma, currently a homemaker, lives in Delhi. She has a bachelor’s in Travel and Tourism.

Volunteer Teacher Chirag Juneja's first session at KGBV Devipur-Moti was a key introduction to mathematics for the students. With a focus on making math enjoyable and accessible, Chirag’s engaging teaching methods and the support from Class Assistant Sweta has set a positive tone for the year. This experience underscores the collaborative efforts between passionate volunteers, supportive partners, and generous donors in enhancing educational outcomes in rural areas.

eVidyaloka’s Volunteer Teachers come from all walks of life and varied geographies. Their passion to teach the children of rural India drives them to break all barriers and obstacles in the path to deliver their sessions.

This year, eVidyaloka needs passionate volunteers who can teach in Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese and English.
