Shaping Futures Through Compassion: Azruhana's Story

eVidyaloka|October 2025

In live virtual classrooms, collaboration and engagement are essential to effective learning. At eVidyaloka, Class Assistants (CAs) play a crucial role in this process, providing this support being present physically in the class allows volunteer teachers to focus entirely on teaching. These class assistants step in to bridge gaps in technology, teaching, classroom discipline and planning hands-on activities guided by the volunteer teachers. One shining example is Azruhana Farukee, a Class Assistant from Assam in KGBV Lahorighat under the EmpowerED programme.

EmpowerED is an initiative by eVidyaloka aimed at promoting digital empowerment by fostering digital literacy among students with a special focus on girl students in government residential schools. It addresses gender disparity in STEM education and the shortage of qualified computer science teachers in rural government schools— creating opportunities for all students to succeed in a digital world.

Mentoring patiently

When Azruhana first joined the program, she was motivated by a strong sense of purpose and a desire to make a meaningful impact. As she guided students during the sessions, she noticed that for many, technology was entirely new, and even switching on a computer was a challenge.

Despite the odds, Azruhana brought patience, empathy, and an unwavering dedication to her work. She helped create a warm and supportive classroom environment where students slowly let go of their fears. Little by little, their transformation became visible — not just in the skills they were building, but in the confidence that began to shine through. Their initial hesitation gradually gave way to genuine enthusiasm.

Students learned basic digital skills, including typing, using word processors, sending emails, and navigating the internet. After a few classes, many students were able to independently use digital tools and explore advanced platforms. This progress had opened doors to new opportunities, from exploring newer learning opportunities online to managing day to day tasks with greater ease.

Growing personally and professionally

For Azruhana, this experience is equally transformative. As she works closely with the students and volunteer teachers, she has been able to develop strong communication and leadership skills. She learned how to simplify complex topics, adapt to different learning styles, and collaborate effectively in a team. Beyond the practical skills, the experience also deepened her appreciation for how compassion and dedication can profoundly shape someone’s life.

A remarkable outcome of the program so far has been the ripple effect it has created. Students began sharing what they had learned with their families and neighbors, spreading digital awareness beyond the classroom. It stands as a true example of how education can empower not just individuals, but entire communities.

The role of the class assistant is evidently at the intersection of making a real difference while also changing the individual in so many ways. Azruhana’s journey as a Class Assistant is a testament to the impact of inclusive, hands-on digital education. Her efforts have ignited confidence and hope in her students while also shaping her own path of personal and professional growth.
